Don’t pretend to be what you’re not, instead, pretend to what you want to be, it is not pretence, it is a journey to self realization.- Michael Bassey Johnson
I don’t know about you, but I always loved the idea of pretending. As a kid it was always fun to pretend I was a certain character, an evil version of myself, someone who has an accent (ok I wasn’t very good at that one), and so much more! It wasn’t shocking that when I took a theater class in high school I loved it. As a shy teenager it was nice to pretend I was someone other than me. I could be loud and comical even if I wasn’t that in real life. Acting showed me I could do or be whoever I wanted to be.
As I research about changing my thinking and my life I have run into this idea of acting “as if”. Now you may be wondering what this means, and I am going to tell you. Acting as if is, is basically what it sounds like. You are acting as something. The difference between this and acting though is that you are “acting” so you can manifest whatever you want in your life.
Let me give you an example. Let’s say you want to be a famous baseball player. You are going to act as if you are already one. You have to determine what famous baseball players do and how they got where they’re at. Maybe you go out and buy a biography about Babe Ruth. Then what do all baseball players need? A bat. A ball. Also what do they do? They practice.
So find out what you want and act like you already are there in your life. After a while it won’t be acting anymore. You will actually be that person. No not Babe Ruth haha but if you set your intentions to be a famous baseball player and take the actions to get there by acting “as if” then you will get what your heart desires.
My weightloss is an example of how I used this method in my own life. I determined how a fit person would act and acted like one. I started eating healthy and exercising every morning. I lost 60 lbs within 7 months. Much of that comes from acting “as if”.
So if you want to change your life. You got to be willing to act different than you have acted before. Which is honestly common sense because how can you see a difference in anything if you don’t make any change? I dare you all reading this starting acting “as if” and see your life change before your eyes.
