“Today I choose life. Every morning when I wake up I can choose joy, happiness, negativity, pain… To feel the freedom that comes from being able to continue to make mistakes and choices – today I choose to feel life, not to deny my humanity but embrace it.”- Kevyn Aucoin
Was I the only one in middle school who cringe worth and constantly said the phrase “live, laugh, love.” It was like my quote that stood for me. Even though now I can think back and think that I didn’t really understand how really powerful those 3 words were.
I feel strongly now more than ever that these 3 words are how we can get the most out of life. Think about it. Live. We all are technically living, but are we really living? Or are we just working for the next paycheck and not doing anything that makes us passionate or happy? Why do we have to wait until someone tells us that we’re dying to actually do things like skydive? There’s a whole wide world out there that is meant to be lived, but few people actually really live it.
Laugh. People underestimate the power of laughter. It’s one of the greatest gifts we have on this planet. It’s the feeling of absolute joy that comes out in a form of a chuckle or if you’re real crazy a sound that’s never been heard before by the human ear haha. Regardless laughing is so important. I often think about the movie Patch Adams that has Robin Williams in it. He used laughter to help sick children. That movie showed just how powerful laughter can truly be. When I was in some of the darkest places in my life I know that laughter was truly the best medicine.
Then there is love. We can say we don’t need love. But all of us have this part of us that needs love. Not any love specifically, but just love in general. Whether it be from family, friends, relationships, pets, God, etc. To feel love and give it is one of the greatest things ever. However; sometimes when you love it can hurt. If someone you love dies, if you go through a breakup, if you’re watching someone you care about battle an addiction, if your food drops on the floor- okay I just added in the last one to lighten the mood (but really dropping some bomb food on the floor is equal to when Rose let go of Jack’s hand in Titanic). The thing is with love though is that even though things happen that will hurt you for putting your heart out there..it is always worth it. Yes, the pain may hurt, but it is much more worth it to love and lose than to never experience love at all.
I may remember these three words from my cheesy middle school experience, but now I actually embrace these. And I challenge all of you reading this to do the same. Let your inner, awkward middle school self out- okay just playing- puberty is a close friend. But what I was trying to say is embrace these 3 words.
Live: Live your life to your fullest ability.
Laugh: Laugh to bring joy to your life.
Love: Love because it’s the greatest thing to exist in our lives.
We are all not promised another day. I could die tomorrow for all I know and if I do I want to think I did all 3 of these words to the best of my ability.
I hope you all have a great rest of your day!
Talk to you all tomorrow,
